Opinion of the Week- How have beauty standards changed over the years
Closed

How does it work? The Toluna Team and Toluna Team CA accounts will each post a topic on their profile every Tuesday in August, starting with “Opinion of the Week…” Write a quality opinion on that topic and we will choose 1 random winner for each the US and Canada’s topics, to win 3,000 points.

Ground Rules: Open to US and CA members only. Every Tuesday in August, the TolunaTeam and TolunaTeamCA will each create a topic on their profiles regarding a specific theme, and ask members to provide their opinion. One winner will be selected from each the US and Canada to win 3,000 points. Winners will be chosen at random from all eligible posts. Eligible posts must be in compliance with the Toluna Member Code of Conduct. Opinion of the Week winners will be announced within 1 week from launch of Topic, and bonus points credited to member accounts via direct credit.

Oh, yes, they have changed, and not for better. Models are too young, skinny, and perfect.

I know this is cliche and as such much overdone but I am all for ''beauty is in the eye of the beholder'' If nothing else, 68 years of life have taught me to live by that standard.

Beauty standard have changed drastically in the 21st century. Age gracefully. Fine line and grey hair are of maturity you have to accept. Age will run its course whether you want it or not.

I think there has been more emphasis now on diversity than there has been in the past. There is greater acceptance of varying body types, (though there may also be a greater deal of polarization between the typically idolized "slim" figure and more full-figured types), skin tones, "imperfections" like freckles or crooked teeth. There has been more of a shift towards "natural" beauty, where women have begun shunning make-up and proudly posting make-up free selfies. Men have also become more relevant in the beauty industry with the rise of "metrosexuals".

I think the biggest change over the years is makeup application, makeup application can make a person look much more beautiful than when they don't have on makeup because there is more contouring and coloring with makeup that changes the look and contour of the face.
