W.O.C. - The Force

Hello Influencers!

On this day in 1977, Memorial Day weekend opens with an intergalactic bang as the first of George Lucas’ blockbuster Star Wars movies hits American theaters.

The incredible success of Star Wars–it received seven Oscars, and earned $461 million in U.S. ticket sales and a gross of close to $800 million worldwide–began with an extensive, coordinated marketing push by Lucas and his studio, 20th Century Fox, months before the movie’s release date. “It wasn’t like a movie opening,” actress Carrie Fisher, who played rebel leader Princess Leia, later told Time magazine. “It was like an earthquake.” Beginning with–in Fisher’s words–“a new order of geeks, enthusiastic young people with sleeping bags,” the anticipation of a revolutionary movie-watching experience spread like wildfire, causing long lines in front of movie theaters across the country and around the world.

So please tell us your experience of the Force! Do you enjoy this franchise? Why? Why not? Tell us about your favorites and least favorites- we're to know dieing to!

Star Wars has been a big part of my life since I was a toddler. These movies hold a special place in my heart, as they have been a huge part of my friendship with my father. We've seen the last three from the original franchise in theatres together, and have watched all of the movies at home together countless times. The excitement we shared when they decided to make a new trilogy was incredible.

I do not like Star Wars and I haven't seen any of the movies. I used to watch it when I was a kid, but today I have no interest. I prefer watching drama and action movies.

I've only watched a couple of the movies but I did like the ones I saw. I can see how they are so popular and I'm hoping to watch more in the future.

Great Timing! i just did a battle between Star Wars and Star Trek.. i'm so curious as to who likes which more.
Personally, I've never sat through either.. the genre was not something i was ever interested in. Although these days i have wondered what the big hype is and would try to sit through either movie, maybe i will this weekend coming... we'll see :)

What I like about the Star Wars is that it has got a right mix of action. I enjoy the storyline of the movies and the galactic adventures that unfold around them. I like the funny characters, particularly the droids like C-3PO, R2D2, HK47, Chopper, BB8, and K2S0 that add tasteful comedic relief and provided relevant and memorable comedy to the films. My least favorite characters would be Snoke, Count Dooku and Darth Maul. I feel Star Wars is infinitely entertaining. It thrives on something relatable in life and that there's more good than bad. It embodies the temptation of power and the lengths we will go to when protecting the ones we love. It shows that living in a universe with billions of other people and some of which are strange alien lifeforms, we still generally aim for common objectives, that is a peaceful place to live and an undying sense of curiosity for the distant worlds of the universe. Finally, I enjoy the inspirational tales of heroism and overcoming of odds, that there's good and evil and both will pay a price in blood, loss and anguish.
