League of Their Own was june's movie pick. and was true event in the 1942 , WW 2. The movie was made in 1992 director was Penny Marshall. she is RIP, god bless her . She wrote many great movies.
This movie has drama , comedy and great stars like Tom Hanks, Rosie
O'Donnell . Madonna, Geena Davis. When the owner was threatened
they going to close down Major League Baseball for women, they went out to find Women players.
They found two sisters had rivalry with each other. Its common for siblings. The team was called Rockford Peaches.
Geena D, Dottie husband was at war and her sister Kit wanted to do something for yourself. Lots up and downs. They found other players.
They had Betty and she got bad news regarding her husband. She backed out. Her sister Kit was traded to the rival team Belles.
The qualified in the World Series
They got a coach Tom Hanks, from the start he thought it was a joke.
In the last game Kit score bottom of the ninth. and they won. the game.
Fun to watch the pressure that Kit had to get a score to win the game. The best team wins and good to see they all celebrated at the end.
End of the game the sisters reconcile.
In the present they reunited and meet up.
The plot of the story hits home in our daily life.
In life if we belief in something we have to fight for our rights . In his generation we as women have to stick together.

Here is a movie that should go on all top Baseball or even sport movie lists,a very much a must see!
Leading up to and During World War II,America's Favorite pastime has taken a big hit in the professional athletic young men department.
Now with no one to play there is no games! The owner must find a way to keep their sport alive. What can or should they do.
The Sponsor and owners have an idea, they will fill the spot of missing men player with women who can play and are still at home in America to fill the void.
Our story follow a field talent agent and recruiter as he fine player to fill a team and how he finds two Competitive talented sisters to player for his team.
All the while there are the trials of being a baseball player and playing in a all women league of their own.
In the early 1990s, former ballplayer goes to Cooperstown for induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame and remembers how it was and meets up with other old ladies who also played on all the teams.
Will a cast of all star women to play the part it is all brought together perfectly as it ends in the the final tribute to all the participating teams that play and died off after the war ended and the men came back from WWII
Almost historic in what the movie did and paid tribute to doing and for something that a lot of people nowadays never knew anything about!
This is a movie that really serves a purpose for being made and is well worth a look and is there are must see baseball movies 'A League of Their Own' is one for sure!

This movie offers a great "hit" of nostalgia for anyone who enjoyed the "glory" days of baseball. A womens' league is formed as a "fill in" form of entertainment after the majority of men are shipped out to the front lines. What emerges is a strong group of women from various backgrounds learning the ins and outs of the game as they work together to try to make the league both competitive and fun. Gina Davis takes the lead here as the women come together over baseball and life and Tom Hanks is a winner as their all too often baffled manager, as he struggles to navigate the challenges brought forth by the strong personalities in the group. Fast-forward thirty years and we see how each woman's time playing the game affected their future selves, a fun summer movie for any baseball fan. Bring on the popcorn for this "back to roots" baseball classic.

Since so many young people these days have given up the pass time of reading books, I love movies that are based upon true events.
Even when many scenes have been altered for dramatic effect, the ideas are still presented and, if someone is interested, they can spend the time to learn more.
The idea of women in sports was basically unheard of back in the 1930’s and 40’s.
Baseball was “the all American sport” however many American men were off fighting for the new team owners, the American military.
The pay was atrocious and the risks were infinitely higher but so many people felt it was their duty to risk their lives for whatever their government indicated they should.
The result was that those who remained at home longed for something to take their minds off of the war and the countless souls that were being lost.
The idea of women playing baseball was brilliant.
This movie gave us the opportunity to see how the idea may have come to fruition.
Obviously someone came up with the idea, someone found women who were interested in playing, and someone came up with the money to get the program moving forward.
The net result was something great.
The movie was fantastic and I loved it.
I loved the interactions between the players, coaches, and owners (much like still exists today).
I especially enjoyed Geena Davis and Tom Hanks.
It is rarer these days to find a great movie that is good for the family and isn’t full of sex, violence, and profanity and this one definitely hit the spot.
I am sure that you will enjoy it too.

“A League of Their Own” was made in the early 90s, and features an all-star cast including Gena Davis, Tom Hanks, Rosie O’Donnell and even Madonna. Directed by Penny Marshall, it tells the story of Cubs owner (Gary Marshall) trying to drum up interest in baseball again by bankrolling a womens league, after WW2 threatens to shut down Major League Baseball.
After assembling a team (“The Peaches”), and appointing a (somewhat reluctant) coach Jimmy Dugan (played by Tom Hanks) they begin training. The movie deals with women struggling to be seen as equal athletes as it becomes apparent that the audiences coming to see the games, see them more as a gimmick, or worse, they just come to ogle the ladies and laugh. Even their coach treats it as a bit of a joke in the beginning, but once he sees the heart, and in many cases, the genuine talent – of some of the players, he begins to slowly believe in the team more and more. When a photographer from “Life” magazine catches a great picture of one of the girls catching a ball while doing the splits, interest spreads and attracts more patrons, but the owners are still skeptical. We follow the team and coach on their bus trips around the Country to play different games and learn a lot about the women themselves, as each has their own interesting story.
Eventually after training and going on the road and trying to convince the owners that this would be a good idea, The Peaches make it to the world series for a spectacular end to the story. Since the story is told through an extended flashback, in the end we come back to “present day” and see the historical imprint that has been left by these women. A story about heart, equality and fighting for the right to be seen and follow your own dreams, it’s funny, smart and told with expert storytelling. A real classic, which has even given us quotable lines to this day, after all, who hasn’t heard someone say at some point “There’s NO crying in baseball!”?
