Did you know about the second Halifax explosion?

On July 17 1945: An ammunition barge blows up at Bedford Basin in Halifax, causing one death and forcing half the city's population to be evacuated. Damage totals nearly $4 million.

I live on John Brackett drive, which was named after my friends' grandfather. He was a sailor who volunteered to go aboard a munitions ship which was on fire. he put out the fire, and prevented another Mont Blanc incident. (sorry, this is unrelated to your post, but I thought it worth mentioning). Reply
