Would you consider yourself a “pack rat”?

My mother used to say I was one, I never liked to throw anything out…nothing gross, just things that had memories attached to them, ticket stubs, old t-shirts, and little chachki’s. I’m trying to throw a lot of things away now…Would you consider yourself more someone who hangs on to “stuff” or do you not have that problem?

Yes, that's me, and my husband. As we recently moved, though, I am trying to be merciless! Reply

Yes & No...I keep some items in case someone needs the item, but usually move them along real fast. Just to keep the house tidy. Reply

YES! I used to be sooo bad, keeping literally everything! Newspaper clippings of favourite celebrities, old stuff I just really didn't need and served no purpose.
Thankfully I find myself getting a lot better as I'm getting older. I am finding it easier to let go of things that don't serve a greater purpose and just create unnecessary clutter. I think it's great too, because it's forced me to not become so attached to material things. Of course I still keep things that have special memories attached to them, but I have gotten MUCH better at only keeping the things I really want, and not hanging on to every little thing. I've also gotten into the habit of taking pictures of things so I can remember them, rather than keeping the actual items themselves, which I find is a nice way to keep the memory of that thing without having it actually take up space.
It's hard getting rid of old things... but it must be done. There's only so much we can keep over a lifetime!

I was until we decided to sell our home at the beginning of the year. As we were decluttering, I realized how much "stuff" I had that I never used and probably would never use again so we started donating to various charities. Now, I only buy what we really need Reply
