Why do all of the surveys always ask if you are of Hispanic descent? Im not Hispanic, but I find it unusual that pretty much every survey asks if you are of Hispanic descent, separate from "what ethnicity are you?".

I dont know, but I would be a little puzzled if a poll asked, "are you Black?", or "are you Japanese?", and then asked "what is your ethnicity? Its just odd.

It seems odd to me to. They ask my race & I answer it but then they still ask me if I'm hispanic in a separate question. Do hispanics get confused & need this extra question? Maybe it's just because their opinions are more important than other races.. At least that seems to be the case in Washington.

It drives me up the wall. I hold that question right up there with pressing "1" for English. And if it doesn't have caucasion as another choice for you it always has other. What in the world is that supposed to mean.

Because: Hispanic/Latinos are the fastest growing ethnic group in the US. This group is becoming more well-to-do all the time, so more companies are targeting them.
Because many hispanic/latino/chicanos also identify as "white/caucasian" they ask a sub-question about ethnicity. Basically they want to completely sure if you DO or DO NOT have partly Hispanic heritage.

odd only to those who do NOT realize the PURPOSE of ALL the surveys on this site, which is to market product. therefor ethnicity IS a major determining factor in what "approach" to use in ANY marketing (advertising) campaign!
